Vind AI Solar & Battery

March 5, 2025 – Oslo, Norway—Vind AI, a global digital platform for onshore and offshore wind assessment and design, today announced the launch of Solar & Battery, the first collaborative digital platform enabling wind developers to design and evaluate co-located wind, solar and battery projects as one integrated system.

Global developers, including Iberdrola, TotalEnergies, EDF Renewables, EnBW and Tokyo Gas, already use Vind AI’s platform for wind development.

Built to work with Vind AI’s onshore wind platform, Solar & Battery enables wind developers planning hybrid projects to assess system design, yield and financial performance within a unified, automatically updated environment. Solar & Battery is most relevant for new projects being designed with wind and either solar, storage or both, as well as for existing projects that could be optimised by adding storage and/or solar.

As more wind portfolios integrate solar and storage, development teams face increasing complexity. Hybrid evaluations are often managed across siloed tools and spreadsheet models, creating version uncertainty, manual input risk and delayed visibility for decision-makers.

Solar & Battery replaces fragmented workflows with a shared system model. When engineers adjust turbine layout, solar capacity or battery sizing, yield projections and financial outputs update automatically—at both project and portfolio level. Heads of Development and portfolio owners can then immediately see how design decisions affect IRR, LCoE and overall viability, without waiting for revised spreadsheets or reconciling conflicting versions.

“Hybrid parks introduce system-level complexity that traditional spreadsheet workflows were never designed to manage. By enabling wind, solar and battery to be assessed together in a collaborative, automatically updated platform, we give development leadership real-time financial clarity at the stage where it can still shape capital allocation.”
—Helene Bøhler, CEO of Vind AI

From project optimisation to portfolio governance

Solar & Battery extends Vind AI’s portfolio capabilities, allowing development leaders to compare wind-only and hybrid configurations across regions and prioritise capital deployment based on continuously updated data.

This reduces the risk of prolonged development on non-viable sites and supports earlier, more confident go/no-go decisions.

Key capabilities include:

  • Integrated co-location design
  • Solar-battery-wind ratio optimisation
  • Battery sizing analysis
  • Hybrid business case assessment
  • Grid constraint and curtailment evaluation
  • Real-time portfolio impact visibility

Solar & Battery is designed specifically for wind developers looking to expand into solar and storage through co-location. It is designed as a system-level decision platform connecting engineering design directly to financial evaluation.

Digitalisation of renewable energy

“Nordic power markets are undergoing historic change, where widening price gaps, significant increase in volatility, and political uncertainty dominate. Renewable energy projects are not just about adding production capacity—they’re about optimising revenue streams and grid capacity, and reducing risks and lowering operational costs. The ability to evaluate hybrid projects with this complexity is a key focus for us to make smart, transparent decisions.”
—Anne Holm, Project Developer of Wind Estate A/S, a customer of Vind AI who currently sits on the Solar & Battery advisory panel.

According to SolarPower Europe’s recent market outlook, hybrid power plants are on the rise. "By integrating wind teams with solar and battery experts and equipping them with the latest digital tools, we aim to unlock a new wave of co-located projects, which hold huge potential to add renewable energy capacity at scale," states Bøhler.

Roadmap and availability

Solar & Battery is currently available only to a closed group of Vind AI partners. Developers seeking early-access in Q2 2026 can join the waitlist to gain priority entry. Vind AI plans to further expand Solar & Battery and Portfolio capabilities throughout 2026, strengthening real-time capital allocation visibility and system-level analysis for renewable portfolios.
