DNV makes a strategic minority investment in Vind AI software platform for renewable energy
Vind AI, a global digital platform for renewable energy project development, today announced a strategic minority investment from DNV, an independent assurance and risk management provider, through DNV Ventures. The investment will support Vind AI’s continued platform development and international growth, with DNV taking an observer seat on Vind AI’s board. Alongside the investment, Vind AI and DNV today publicly announce for the first time the integration of DNV’s CFD-ML wind modelling directly into Vind AI’s platform.
  • DNV makes a strategic minority investment in Vind AI through DNV Ventures, with an observer seat on Vind AI’s board, to support platform development and international growth
  • DNV’s CFD-ML wind modelling is now integrated into Vind AI’s platform—giving developers access to high-fidelity turbine interaction and wind resource simulations from the earliest stages of development—announced publicly for the first time today
  • DNV’s broad engineering expertise directly supports Vind AI’s recently launched Solar & Battery offering for co-located wind, solar and battery projects
  • Global developers, including Iberdrola, TotalEnergies, EDF Renewables, EnBW and Tokyo Gas, already use Vind AI’s platform

A strategic investment at the right moment

The investment reflects a deliberate alignment of expertise. Earlier this year, Vind AI launched Solar & Battery, its platform for designing and evaluating co-located wind, solar and battery projects. DNV brings deep technical knowledge across the full renewable energy project lifecycle, including significant expertise in solar, making them a well-matched partner as Vind AI scales its hybrid project capabilities. Having that expertise at board level, through an observer seat, gives Vind AI direct access to some of the industry’s most experienced thinkers at precisely the stage when it can shape product direction.

The round was also supported by existing investors Norrsken VC and Arkwright X, alongside Vind AI employees, who remain the company’s largest ownership group at approximately 70%. DNV is a minority investor. Vind AI’s model of partnering with best-in-class data and technology providers across the industry remains unchanged.

“At DNV, we work with renewable energy developers daily and we see firsthand how critical the early stages of project development are to the success of the energy transition. Vind AI represents a shift in how those early decisions are made, bringing together the data, modelling and collaboration tools that developers need in one place. Through DNV Ventures, we are proud to invest in that vision, and we look forward to being an active observer on Vind AI’s board as the platform grows into the industry standard for renewable energy development.”
Kaare Helle, Venture Director, DNV Ventures

High-fidelity simulations, available from day one

Until now, high-fidelity RANS computational fluid dynamics (RANS CFD) has typically been introduced only later in the development process, due to the high calculation times and costs involved. DNV’s CFD-ML technology changes that. By combining ten years of RANS CFD results with machine learning, it delivers fast, accurate turbine interaction simulations that developers can now access from the earliest stages of a project, directly within Vind AI’s platform—without switching tools or waiting for external analyses.

“Having DNV’s expertise embedded in our partnership, both through the technology integration and through board-level engagement, will make Vind AI a stronger platform for developers worldwide. Our integration of DNV’s CFD-ML technology is already delivering results, and this investment deepens that collaboration. DNV reflects our approach of bringing the best available capabilities together in one platform—that model remains at the heart of everything we build.”
Jan-Tore Horn, CTO & Co-founder, Vind AI

A platform built for the next phase of renewable energy development

Vind AI’s platform integrates more than 8,000 data layers, advanced algorithms, and collaboration tools for wind project development. With Solar & Battery now available for co-located hybrid projects, the platform is evolving into a comprehensive system for renewable energy project design and investment evaluation across technologies.

DNV’s presence as an observer on Vind AI’s board will create further opportunities to explore how both organisations can work together to serve the renewable energy industry more broadly.

Notes:

DNV is a minority investor. Vind AI remains fully independent, and its model of working with best-in-class data and technology partners across the industry is unchanged.

About CFD-ML

CFD.ML refers to a modelling approach that combines computational fluid dynamics (CFD)—detailed physics-based simulation of airflow—with machine learning to produce fast, high-accuracy wind resource assessments. Traditionally, this level of modelling fidelity has only been accessible later in the wind development process due to the time and cost involved in running such simulations.
