How Deep Wind Offshore and Groupe Valorem collaborate in Vind AI to develop 1 GW Tuul Energy Offshore Wind Farm

For the Tuul Energy Offshore Wind Farm project in Estonia—where Norwegian developer Deep Wind Offshore and French green energy operator Valorem are also partnering with Baltic energy producer Sunly—Groupe Valorem and Deep Wind Offshore are leveraging Vind AI to its fullest by collaborating inside the platform to design the park. Once completed, the offshore wind farm is set to be one of the largest in the Baltic region.
The integrated project team is using Vind AI’s superfast yield and layout optimisation tools, while also streamlining project team collaboration. Valorem and Deep Wind have a shared Vind AI space that allows them to have all the project specifications up to date and accessible to everyone in one place.
All project disciplines and data, in one place
“For a project as large as the Tuul Energy wind farm project, we have a big project development team across Valorem and Deep Wind Offshore with a wide range of roles. Being able to bring everyone—from yield engineers to electrical engineers and project managers—efficiently together in Vind AI allows us to stay on track with our ambitious timeline,” says Camille Seznec, Metocean Engineer, Groupe Valorem.
“Vind AI has been crucial in developing the wind farm, especially at concept stages of the project. The seamless integration and availability of data from multiple disciplines, alongside bringing all engineers from both our organisations into a single platform, plays a vital role in helping us make important decisions and set the course for the project. This saves time, improves decision making, and lets us effectively communicate decisions among the project team and across our organisations,” explains Apurva Jain, Foundation Engineer at Deep Wind Offshore.
“Having used Vind AI for several years now to develop leading offshore wind projects much faster, it’s been exciting to also now use it together with our project partner Valorem,” says Apurva Jain, Foundation Engineer at Deep Wind Offshore. “By having all our project data and analysis in one shared space, we are saving huge amounts of time, since we don’t have to spend time synchronising data and inputs across our organisations. Every team member always has instant access to the latest project version directly in the platform. The real-time updates also allow team members to work in parallel, which massively speeds up our development timelines as well.”
Maintaining data confidentiality
“Data- and project confidentiality is, of course, also important when collaborating across companies. It’s important for us that this is easy to do in Vind AI by assigning different user roles and corresponding access levels,” says Camille Seznec, Metocean Engineer, Groupe Valorem. “Vind AI is also a highly effective tool because it integrates several features into a single platform: long-term data download, creation of theoretical power curves, wind farm layout calculation optimiser, and cable routing. All these calculations are possible without Vind AI, but combining them really makes them effective.”
A model for future partnerships
The Tuul Energy Offshore Wind Farm project just received approval of its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) program. “While developing the program and preparing for public hearings, Vind AI enabled us to visualise the project and decide how to best present different environmental aspects and technical scenarios to local stakeholders”, says Hans H. Marki, EIA Advisor at Deep Wind Offshore.
The project partners are set to begin construction once all regulatory approvals are in place. Looking ahead, Deep Wind Offshore and Valorem are both considering how they can leverage Vind AI for their other offshore wind partnerships in the future.
“Vind AI brings something truly groundbreaking to the market, and as one of the first industry partners, we are proud to have taken a leadership position in embracing new technology when developing our projects around the world. It’s great to see more industry players following suit.”
John S. Rønnevik, Head of Sustainability at Deep Wind Offshore.
