John Marius Hegseth

Senior Algorithm Engineer

John Marius Hegseth is Senior Algorithm Engineer at Vind AI, where his work centers on the modeling and optimization problems behind wind project design and assessment. He holds a PhD in Marine Technology from NTNU, with a dissertation on efficient modeling and design optimization of large floating wind turbines, and spent several years as a senior advisor on floating wind foundations at Dr.techn.Olav Olsen before joining Vind AI in 2023.

About

John Marius

John Marius is focused on the engineering problems underneath wind: how a turbine, its foundation, and the loads acting on both interact, and how to model that efficiently enough to run at the pace project development actually requires.

His background covers structural and marine engineering, computational modeling, and design optimization. As a senior advisor at Dr.techn.Olav Olsen, he worked within the renewable energy business area with a focus on floating wind turbines, building directly on a PhD at NTNU spent on the same problem. Earlier in his career, he worked as an analysis engineer at Fedem Technology, completed a summer project with DNV's Maritime Advisory group, and, as a lab assistant at NTNU, helped develop and test a new buoyancy material, an early, hands-on version of the same floating-structure problems his later research took on.

As Senior Algorithm Engineer at Vind AI, John works on the algorithms behind the platform's technical modeling for wind projects, bringing the same design optimization thinking from his PhD and his years in floating wind engineering to how the product evaluates turbine and foundation performance.
