TAURON embraces new digital tools to accelerate wind power development—partnering with tech company Vind AI

Oslo, Norway, January 15, 2025 – TAURON, Poland’s leader in electricity production, has entered into a strategic partnership with Vind AI, a Norwegian technology company whose digital platform for wind developers brings together data, advanced algorithms, analysis and collaboration tools.
By using Vind AI’s platform for their onshore wind projects, TAURON will develop their wind project pipeline across Poland faster and smarter. TAURON’s wind project pipeline includes the c190 MW Miejska Górka wind farm, set to be one of the largest onshore wind projects in Poland upon its completion in 2027, with capacity to power nearly 200,000 households.
Vind AI’s platform is the first tool of its kind used by the Development Team of TAURON Zielona Energia, the energy company’s renewable energy arm, and TZE is the first Polish wind developer to use Vind AI. Large wind developers in Europe outside of Poland, including EnBW, RWE, Statkraft and TotalEnergies, already use the digital platform for their wind projects offshore.

“The integration of the Vind AI platform is another concrete step in implementing our growth strategy, announced last December. Our ambition is to achieve 2.4 GW of installed onshore capacity by 2035. This tool significantly accelerates the identification and assessment of sites for new wind projects, strengthening our capabilities to deliver new renewable capacity through our own development teams. By implementing advanced technological solutions, we are directly addressing the growing demand for clean and reliable electricity while building an efficient organisation focused on customers and value creation”.
Michał Orłowski, Vice President of the Management Board for Asset Management & Development in TAURON Polska Energia

“Advanced digital tools hold huge potential for the Polish wind industry. By being the first in Poland to start using Vind AI’s leading digital platform, TAURON aims to gain a competitive advantage through faster, automatic selection of potential wind farm development sites.
Using Vind AI will allow the TAURON wind farm project development team to optimise its activities. The platform’s extensive data layers and advanced algorithms help us shorten the time of spatial analyses of individual locations and automating them, and it will enable us to conduct analyses related to the wind productivity of future projects”.
Ricardo Marques Fazenda, Vice President of the Management Board in TAURON Zielona Energia

Poland is in the middle of a significant shift in its energy landscape, with renewable energy sources —wind, solar and hydropower—surpassing coal for the first time in electricity generation in June 2025. While onshore wind capacity was a significant 9.3 GW at the end of 2023, the Polish Wind Energy Association estimates this could increase to 12.7-18 GW by 2030. The government’s recent legislative changes have eased restrictions on onshore wind farm development, presenting new opportunities for wind developers.
Industry associations for the wind industry in Poland are seeing rapidly growing interest across the industry for digital tools and artificial intelligence in supporting faster and smarter wind project development.
“As wind projects in Poland need to speed up permitting and DEVEX phase in order to add more smoothly green power to country's energy mix we expect rapidly growing interest across the industry for digital tools and artificial intelligence in supporting faster and smarter wind project development across Poland"
Dominika Taranko, Vice President and Managing Director of Wind Industry Hub, the Foundation of Polish Wind Energy Association
Vind AI sees significant potential in the Polish market. The company’s digital platform can be used for any wind project site, anywhere in the world.
“We are thrilled to be working with Tauron, as we see huge potential for digital tools to make it possible to develop wind energy projects in Poland faster and easier, from early-stage site assessments to full-scale optimisation of priority sites. In other markets, we have seen our users develop business cases more than 5 times faster with Vind AI compared to traditional ways of working, and so we are excited to follow Tauron going forward.”
Helene Bøhler, CEO and co-founder of Vind AI
