One year of product updates with Onshore Wind

A lot has happened in a year with our Onshore Wind product. So we thought we would highlight the most important updates that have happened since we launched just over a year ago.

Optimisation upgrades: Flexibility for every scenario

We introduced powerful new ways to find the best layout, even when project parameters are in flux.

  • New method: ‘Fill area’: Automatically calculate exactly how many turbines fit within an area based on spacing requirements. You can also set a maximum wake loss limit, ensuring no single turbine exceeds your threshold.
  • Irregular optimisation exploration: Unsure of the exact turbine count? Specify a minimum and maximum range to explore how key outputs vary. Visualise trade-offs (e.g., Energy vs. Wake Loss) in a graph and apply the best layout immediately.
  • Optimisation constraints: Simply toggle "max sensor noise" or “max sensor shadow flicker”, and the optimiser will automatically respect your specified limits.

Advanced noise & shadow flicker analysis

Designing compliant layouts is now faster and more precise with major upgrades to our local impact tools, ensuring you can navigate any local regulations with ease.

Greater flexibility for global markets

We have introduced a wave of improvements to help you assess noise compliance with confidence across different regions. You can now:

  • Customise time-based limits: Specify exactly when noise limits must be respected (e.g., day, evening, or night ranges).
  • Define limit types: Choose whether limits apply to average or maximum values.
  • Wind-specific evaluation: Set limits that only trigger at specific wind speeds—a critical requirement for many European markets.

Streamlined workflow & instant feedback

We have made the analysis process significantly faster. You now get instant feedback on curtailment needs since noise levels at sensor points update automatically with every design change. This allows for rapid site-specific adjustments, while still giving you the option to run a full noise analysis on the ground grid whenever you need deeper, visual insights.

Wind Data: Industry standards & high-fidelity simulations

  • WAsP integration: Create industry-standard WAsP grids directly within Vind AI, incorporating land surface roughness and topographical effects for highly accurate yield calculations. Watch the webinar.
  • Whiffle integration: Access high-fidelity Large Eddy Simulations (LES) in hours rather than days. This unified workflow allows you to design based on accurate local wind conditions without waiting for measurement campaigns. Read more.

Photomontage: Realistic visualisations in minutes

Stakeholder engagement is critical. With the Photomontage tool, you can create realistic images of your turbines in their planned physical location in minutes, no external software or training required. This allows you to communicate impact effectively and adjust layouts earlier in the process. Read more.

Curtailments: Maximise yield while meeting restrictions

We have introduced granular control over curtailment strategies to help you balance compliance with production.

  • Turbine-level optimisation: Optimise operational modes (standard, sound reduction, shutdown) for each wind sector and time of day. Vind AI finds the solution that satisfies noise requirements while minimising AEP loss.
  • Park-level control: Customise rules in the Analysis Configuration to simulate scenarios like limiting export power or shutting down all turbines. All resulting losses are detailed hour-by-hour in the production statistics.
